Posting is not marketing. If you're posting five times a week and still not getting paying clients, the problem isn't your frequency. It's that you don't have a plan.
In this episode, I walk you through the exact 30-day plan to get your first and next paying client. Week by week. No new tools, no rebrand, no fixing your Instagram bio for the third time this week.
Here's the thing. Coach A posts five times a week and hears crickets. Coach B posts twice a week and signs three clients. Same platform. Same effort. Different result.
The difference is that every post has a job.
Without a plan, every post becomes a brand new decision you're asking your audience to make. And confused people don't sign up. They don't even know what you're offering.
What you'll walk away with:
Why posting more isn't the fix. Twice a week with a plan beats daily with none.
The full 30-day plan, week by week. One problem and one offer, then conversations, then proof your offer solves it, then the ask.
The red carpet rule. Why jumping from one-on-one to workshop to masterclass every week kills all three.

I almost get the same answers all the time when I ask coaches who get onto strategy call with me, what is it that you're doing for your marketing so far? And the answer is almost always, I'm posting. Posting, my friend, is not the same as marketing. So today we are going to talk about how to get your first and next paying clients in the next 30 days. Hey coach, welcome back to Make It Visible Podcast. I'm Michelle Kwei, business and marketing coach for coaches. And if you're new here, I teach coaches how to build a coaching business and get their first and next paying clients. You became a coach because you are good at this. Really good. And the world needs what you have. But being a great coach and knowing how to build a coaching business, well, those are two complete different skill sets. That's what we fix here on this podcast. Every week I'm breaking down the what stops you from being visible in front of your audience, giving you simple marketing strategies that works, and showing you exactly how to show up so the right client feels like, well, you're already reading their mind. If you're ready to start building your coaching business that pays you back, grab a drink and let's get into it.
I feel like this is one of the most difficult million-dollar questions coming from coaches who's out and who's struggling to get paying clients. How do I find my paying clients? And the answer is never, never a straight line. It's always, well, you gotta do this, you gotta do that. And so you end up spending a lot of time doing everything, but not a single strategy or tactic that leads to your paying client. And because, well, Coach A could be posting five times a week and there's no client. But coach B, who's also starting out and she's just posting twice a week, somehow she got three clients. Same platform, same effort, but somehow you have different results. So what is the difference? So the underlying belief is that when you're building a coaching business, sure, you need visibility, you need to get out there, you need to put your message out. And there's that assumption of when I put my message out, supposedly it's going to get to a paying client. But that's usually not the case. Posting is only step one. There's whole other things that you're not seeing behind the word. And posting is, it feels like that is the work that you do, which in reality it is not. And I remember I had a client who sat down in a session, and when I told her that, hey, when you start doing marketing, you need to have some kind of plan. And the one thing that I remember hearing from her was that, but wait, Michelle, I never like to plan. I'm kind of a spontaneous person and I do things as I go. And I'm thinking, well, you can't really have marketing unless you have a plan. Here's what happened when you don't have a plan. You kind of scatter everywhere and you jump from one message to another, maybe one offer, one package to another package, or one workshop to another workshop. So you're throwing a lot of things out there, and there's no strategic way of talking about what you sell and what you offer so that your dream client has enough time to really understand you and get to know you. So without a plan, every post becomes a brand new decision that you're asking your audience to make. And decision is going to eat up people's time. I have to sit down, I have to read every single one of your posts in order to make a concrete decision whether or not I want to hire you as a coach. So, in other words, posting every day is not going to get you that client. Now, posting two times a day, but you have a strategic plan of what each post is going to do for you out there. Once you publish that post, then that creates a streamline of how am I going to make my buying decision whether or not I want to sign up with you or hire you as a coach, that helps your audience to decide whether or not they want to hire you. So seeing your post popping into the thread is not helpful. Having more frequency or having more volume is not going to change the fact that you are just asking your audience to make a decision every single time they see your post. And if you're someone scattered and you don't have any plan, it makes perfect sense that you're confusing people and confuse people, they just won't sign up because they don't even know what you are offering. Which is why no one is booking your discovery call. This is where I see a lot of newbie coaches get stuck. Because they probably have gone through some type of training or business building training through the coaching certification program that they signed up with. Usually it's a couple of modules, you go and you watch the video recording. Maybe you have gone through a couple of training, a business building training like that. But training is training. Training is not reality. And a lot of time where you get stuck and where that gap is, you don't know how to implement what you have learned in real practice. So you go around and thinking that the first thing I need to do is to get my message out, get seen, and I need to tell my story, I need to talk about my business, I need to talk about my package. So all these things are information that you can find everywhere. But no one sits down with you and say, hey, listen, lady, you need to have a plan. So I'm gonna walk you through what that plan looks like in the next 30 days so that you have an idea of how your post is going to lead to a paying
client. So what I suggest is that you open up your calendar and you pick one coaching package that you would like to get more clients on, whether it's a one-on-one coaching, or maybe you have a group program that you're developing, or maybe it's a course that you're working on. I want you to look at it as a 30-day plan. So open up your calendar and you're gonna break down week by week what you're going to do and what you're going to talk about during that 30 day that will lead to a paying client or maybe a little more. Now, depending on how warm your market is, meaning how many people have already learned and heard about the fact that you are a coach. And hopefully, if you're watching this video, you have done some type of that work to let people know that you are a coach and you started your coaching business. If you have not done that already, then the first step for you in that case is to go out and start sharing that message, sharing that news that hey, in case you didn't know, I recently got certified as a coach and I started my coaching business. And this is my goal for the rest of the year that I'm growing my coaching business. So that's your step one is to let people know that you have a business. And then come back to this video so that you can hear about the next 30-day plan. So the next 30 day, I want you to look at that calendar and you're gonna break down week by week. So, week one, you're going to focus on talking about one problem that your ideal dream client is struggling with, one specific person or type of person or the group of people that you're intending to serve. And then you're going to talk about the one offer that you have, an offer meaning your coaching package. And I suspect that right now, if you're watching this video, you probably have either just a one-on-one coaching, or maybe you've been thinking about doing a group coaching, then just pick one package. Okay. Later on, we'll talk about if you have multiple packages, what do you do? So we're just gonna talk about one package that you would like to sell, you would like to offer, you would like to get more clients into that program. So pick one problem that program will solve, and one person or one group of people that would be ideal to sign up to this package and pick that one package that you would like to sell. Now, what you're going to do is that week one, you want to talk about why this program is so helpful or would be the solution for that one person or one group of people helping them solving that one type of problem. And that's your whole week one of social media posts. Now, you may be someone who's busy, maybe you have a nine to five job. Then what I want you to do is pick a day or pick a couple of days that you would like to post on social in talking about the one problem, the one group of people who your package is designed for, and what is that one package that you would like to get more eyes on? And that's all you focus on in that first week. Now, the second week is you want to write down, if you don't have that large of an audience, maybe just write down five to ten people that you know of that you can strike a conversation. Now, this doesn't have to be, hey, would you like to sign up to my coaching package conversation? This could just be, hey, it's been a while and I haven't seen you. I would love to hear what you're up to. And through that conversation, then you can build relationships. And this is the starting point of your referral. So, week two, what you're going to do is you're going to write down five to ten people that you know of, or if you have a larger connection, you know more people, then maybe make that up to 30. But remember, be realistic, don't be too ambitious. Your time is valuable. So remember, what feels doable that I can connect with, do that for week two. So you're just gonna simply reach out to them and start a conversation. It would be something like, hey, can we grab coffee? I would love to hear what's up with you. And through that conversation, you're clearly going to also say that, hey, I started my coaching business and this is the type of people that I'm looking to serve. Who do you know that I need to have a conversation with? So that's what you
do on week two. Write that on your calendar. That's your activity for business building for week number two. Week number three is what you're going to do is you're going to write two posts. Okay. You can be ambitious and you can have a daily post, but I suggest at the minimum of two posts that week about one problem that your program is helping people to solve and why they need to sign up to this program. I feel like a lot of coaches forget that people don't sign up because your coaching package offers 60-minute sessions. It has great in-between session support, and maybe you even build a community for them. People don't care about that. People care about why do I need this? And so, in that week three, when you write those two posts, you're not just going to talk about the problem, you're also going to talk about why your coaching package or your coaching offer is the best solution for them to resolve those problems. So that's what you focus on week three. Write that in your calendar and make sure that that is your to-do list that you can check off. Now, week four. So now we're at the last week of the 30-day how to get your first paying client. So, week four, you're going to straight up and doing an ask. Over the last couple of weeks, you probably have conversation that was going or you started, or maybe it's been something that you went back and you revisited because that somehow this person has shown interest, but they didn't really book a discovery call with you. So, week four, you're going to focus on making the ask. I know it feels uncomfortable to asking someone for business, but trust me, you can do the asking without feeling it sousy or greedy.
You can approach that person and say, hey, we had a conversation two weeks ago and you share some interest. I am doing my diligence or I want to make sure that you know I follow up with you because that person just told you that they're interested. So you're doing that person a favor by going back and follow up with that person and say, So would you like to finalize and would you like to book a call right now so I can save your spot? Simple ask would take a long wait. So week four, you're going to do the simple ask and then follow up. Just follow up with that conversation. Where did you left off? Maybe you share some valuable tip with that person. Follow up with that person and say, hey, two weeks ago we talked about this. How is that going out for you? And just stay curious and just go back and build that relationship with that person genuinely by asking, hey, I told her I shared this and I shared that tip with you. How did that go? And that would make people feel like you actually care about them because you do care about them. So, week four, your task is going to be focusing on the ask. Make sure you go follow up. Make sure if there is something that you wanted to check in with them, check in with them. So this is not just posting. You can still post, you can still share valuable insight, educational piece. This is how, like three tips on how you do X, Y, and Z. Maybe it's a burnout. I know I have a lot of clients who's working on burnout and overwhelmed. So maybe your posting is still about that, but it's about the problem that your program is helping people to solve. And within that 30 days, you focus on just one package that you're going to offer. Now, next month comes around. Maybe you created a workshop. Great, talk about that workshop in place of your one-on-one coaching. But what you don't want to do is not having a plan and walking in week one, we're talking about one-on-one coaching. Week two, we're talking about this workshop. Week three, we're talking about this masterclass. You never gave enough time for the one thing that needs to walk down the red carpet. So make sure that you give all the things that you have created, your package, your lead magnet, your coaching, your course, all the things that you have created, you need to give it enough time to walk down the red carpet.
So one of the things that I've been doing for the last almost a decade in my business, and those of you who's new to me, I started out just like yourself as a life coach, as a mindset coach, as a confidence coach. And that's how I built my coaching business. I was very intentional about what I was posting because I was that someone who kept posting every single day, and it wasn't leading to nowhere. So it wasn't until I figured out what I am posting and why I am posting that changed the whole big picture for me. So nowadays I'm very intentional about what am I going to do within that 30 days. And the way that I do it is I have a notebook that I carry, and this is a traveler's notebook, and it's a great system, and I've been using Traveler's Notebook for the last almost 20 years. I believe I started out in 2010. So almost 20 years, 16 years of using Traveler's Notebook. And I've been on and off. There's other notebooks that I use. I love Erin Condren's The Daily Duo Planner. He has a nice calendar, it has goal setting, and they also have daily pages where you can track all your activity and things that you have to do in your business or in your personal life. So I've been using the Traveler's Notebook, and what I love about Traveler's Notebook is that it comes in these inserts. And I know a lot of coaches have notes from their remarkable or maybe it's their iPad. I am a paper planning person, and my ideas, I need to be able to write them down in order to transfer over to my digital planning tool, which is Notion. I use Notion for my content calendars. I use Notion to keep track of all my business, expenses, budget, all the things I need to do online. But as far as capturing idea, there's no better way of capturing idea than having a notebook in hand. So what I love about Traveler's Notebook is that it comes with book lists like this. And so these are inserts that you can insert it into your system, your traveler's notebook system. And you can have multiple inserts that you carry with you on the go. And this is what I use to capture all my ideas. So it captures my personal life and also my business. So if I have an idea, I will write it down in my booklet and I will come home and I will flip through my booklet and I would transfer a great idea that I can use for content creation into my notion. And from there, I would use Claude to help me to map out does this make sense? So it's kind of like a brainstorming session that I use with Claw to help me to come up with the post. But the big picture idea is something that I do inside my notebook. Comment down below if this is something that you wanted to see in my system of how I plan and capture these ideas using notebook or traveler's notebook. Because I feel like you cannot do marketing without having a plan. There's no way in hell that you can do marketing without having some type of system. Now, the reason why I'm bringing this up is because I see a lot of coaches writing their ideas in their iPad, in their remarkable. And then when you ask them, well, where did you put this idea? And they're very scattered in terms of where to keep track of all these ideas. So what I like is I have a book dedicated to my content creation. I have a book dedicated to capturing ideas or quotes that inspire me. So I can dedicate different booklets that collect the same idea so that I always know which notebook to go back to. So I like it that way because then I can carry it on the go. I can have it with me. If I'm reading something, I can grab my commonplace notebook, I can write down quotes, I can write down inspiration in that book, and then I always know which booklet I need to go back to in order to find that information again. So that's what I love about the Traveler's Notebook. It helps me stay organized, it captures all the ideas so that I can distill inside my notion.
Okay, so that's just recap real quick. So today we talked about how posting every day is not what gets you coaching client. You can be posting twice a week and you can still get clients from just posting twice a week. So the volume or how often you post or what time you post, it's never the determining factor to whether or not you're getting a coaching client. What matters is what you do week by week and post by post. What is it that you're hoping this post is going to do for you? And that comes down to do you have a strategic plan that you operate on for your coaching business? And I gave you example of what that week by week looks like in order to get your first and next paying client in the next 30 days. Week one, focus on one problem, one person, one offer. Week two, you wanted to reach out to the people who's already in your network. So maybe five to ten if you have a bigger connection, a more larger connection, then maybe reach out to 30 people and start the conversation. It doesn't mean that you're going to offer them coaching. You're just simply starting the conversation. Maybe it's a referral that you're looking for, maybe it's a collaboration that you're looking for. Just start the conversation. Week three is you're going to post maybe two to three posts per week about that one problem and why your program is the solution for them to solve that problem. So two posts up to three posts, it's entirely up to what is permitted on your schedule. And week four is you're going to do the ask. You're just going to simply ask them, hey, you said you were interested in this. Here's more information on it. Or you said you were doing this. I'm following up and see how it went for you. And from that, you can then do the ask. Well, if this is something that you're looking for, I can help. And just simply share and do the ask. So, one thing I didn't share with you is a system that I use, which is the traveler's notebook. In my next video, I'll show more of how I use it on a day-to-day basis, and I'll show you how I plan out my content, both on the analog version and also in the digital version using my notion. Comment down below. What has been your way of marketing your coaching business? Do you have a plan or are you kind of the spontaneous client that I had? You're doing things on the go. And if that's the case, how is that working out for you? Comment down below that's start a conversation. I want to hear what's been working for you. And maybe there's others who's doing the same thing out there, and they can share more resources as well. If you're a coach who's not sure entirely what exactly is broken in my coaching business right now, and I just need someone to tell me exactly what to do first. I got you. There's a link in the description box down below that you can grab a diagnostic guide to figure out exactly what to do first, where to start, and what is the missing piece in your coaching business that stops you from getting that first and next paying client.
